-When Charles II died it created a problem for parliament because Charles"s successor James II was openly Catholic and the anti- Catholic feeling in Englad was very high. -James believed in the divine right of kings and wanted to take the power from parliament. -When James II was ruling in 1685 he infuriated parliament and did not listen to anything the test act said. -Soon rebellions broke out everywhere and support for James was quicky lost. -In 1688 parliament invited James Protestant daughter Mary and her husband William of Orange to become the new King and Queen of England...they accepted. - James then left England and gave up his throne. - That event has become known as the Glorious Revolution. -The new King and Queen agreed to the terms of the new bill of rights which stated that parliament was the real government of the country. -Because of that for the firsy time ever the monarch was chosen by parliament and to top it all off the divine right of kings was dead.
